The Utica Greens Festival is held annually in connection with the Utica Music and Arts Festival. Traditionally on the Saturday during UMAF Festival weekend, The Greens Festival spans the day time hours and provides a chance for fest goers, neighbors, and local Utica establisments to network and share their wares. We aren’t going to let you come to Utica and not feed you! Bring the kids, this is a family friendly event!
Varick Street is shut down to vehicle traffic for the greater portion of the day (generally 12:00 noon – 6:00 p.m.) and tents line the street filled with food from an array of local bakeries and restaurants free for sampling. Regional dishes are featured and Chicken Riggies, Utica Greens, Tomato Pie, and Half Moon Cookies are just the beginning of what you can taste.
Family friendly street events are also a big part of the Greens Festival. In the past, the Roller Derby has done an exhibition, Kitty Glitter has come with props and fun for young and young at heart, and several outside stages provide musical accompanyment in genres that are pleasing to the general population. We want you to enjoy yourselves fully with your family and friends!
The Arts portion of the UMAF is also heavily represented here at Greens Fest. Vendors with artisan crafts ranging from paintings, sculpted art, wood working, jewelry making, clothing and accessory design, and even tattoo artists showcase their works for purchase to futher add to the festive backdrop. Plans are in the works for live art exhibition and creation from a troup of independent painters and multimedia artists who enjoy creating to live music. More details on that to come as the planning cooks along.
Your festival bracelet admits you free to the Greens Festival, or a pass may be purchased at Varick Street to enjoy the Greens Fest alone for a nominal fee. This year the Greens Fest is set for Saturday, September 15th.
Warm your heart, share some smiles, and fill yourselves with great food and fun at the annual Utica Greens Festival! Looking forward to a great year in 2012!
